Mothers Day Tribute
Mothers Day has been a sore topic for me since finding out I have Endometriosis. In the LDS community, the heart of most gospel teaching is based on the idea that families are key to Heavenly Father's plan.
As the holiday approached this year, I prayed fervently that I could find peace despite the aching reminder that I don't have children. I sought refuge in the temple, and allowed myself to cry.
I later received a text message from the ward choir director asking me if I would like to sing for Mothers Day. At the beginning of the year, I had set a goal to share my talents, so I gladly said yes!
The song that was chosen was "God Sent an Angel to Watch Over Me" by Sally Deford. If you want to listen, here is a beautiful version: God Sent An Angel to Watch Over Me
Instead of focusing on what I don't have, I chose to focus on what I do have. My blessings are rich when it comes to extraordinary women in my life.
My mom-
My Mom has experienced so much tragedy, and yet she has stood by her children and surrounds them in righteousness and love.
My sister-
She practically raised me during my formative years. My family struggled when I was a child, and my big sis was always there to hold my hand when I needed to cry.
My best friend-
My best friend is truly my rock. We laugh together, play together, and have deep and serious reflections about God and life.
I also loved this quote from Sharon Eubank in a blog article entitled "The Idea of Mothers in Zion Made Me Mad".
"I am a mother because I behave like a mother."
It assured me that God is mindful of His daughters who are like me, childless, but seeking opportunities to nurture.
I know this time of year can be discouraging, but know that you have a Heavenly Father who loves you and understands your very special needs. Keep going, and thank you, my reader, for being one of the amazing women in my life!
